I didn't join this week's musing question from Should be Reading, but I've been thinking about it:


This week’s musing asks…
• Do you read books that are part of a series?
• Do you collect all the books in the series before starting? What if the series is brand new, and the only book that’s been published so far is Book one? As subsequent books in the series are published, do you go back and re-read the preceding books?

Do you like Series?

I do. I hate it when a GREAT book ends. I want to read more about the characters and the world. Don't get me wrong, I'm not into cliffhangers (Lauren Oliver!!) or partial books bound and distributed like whole books (Robin McKinley!!) but when a series gets rolling and it's AMAZING, I love it!!  I can put up with a middler, if you know what I mean (Patrick Rothfuss!!), as long as there's greatness tucked inside and elements of that greatness keep popping up.

For this giveaway, I am giving away a book of your choice that is part of a series, any series, from The Book Depository.  If you hate series, pick one you can imagine you'd like to see in a series and I'll stretch the rules just for you!

The funny thing about SERIES is... you think a little harder before jumping in, you know? You also work up some enthusiasm as you read (Right MorganvilleVampireFan#1?!)  It's like... totally BETTER or that much more intimidating.  Does that make sense?  (Maybe both at the same time?!)

So how often do you jump into a NEW series? I already read Delirium and Moon's books, so I'm hooked already.  But... I've been looking at Carriger's series & Stengl's for a while now... there's something about humor and zombies and vampires all rolled into one or dragons... I'm in the mood for dragons!! And I'm obviously feeling the influence of my great readers to look at the Morganville pile-up. (That's a lot of books!!!)

  1. Oh Gosh, I read a lot of series. These days all romances seem to come in series. Right now my favorite is Fever by Karen Marie Moning. First book is called Dark Fever I think.

  2. Gosh... I love the Night Huntress Series... also, I've started the Maximum Ride series too ; it'S great! There are sooo many! But love the the Percy Jackson series (and its spin-off) and the Vamp. Academy series (and its spin-off)

  6. I love the Hollows series (Rachel Morgan) by Kim Harrison for an adult series; for a YA series, I love the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent!

I have so many fav series: The Hush Hush series, the Starcrossed series, Divergent series, Twilight(of course ;)) Hunger Game series, Delirium series, and for the not so supernatural or dystopian type series there's The Private series by Kate Brian and The Privilege series by Kate Brian. While nothing beats the Harry Potter series for me, I have to say that I'm really loving A Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin and cannot wait for the second season of the TV series to come out. I also love the Night Angels series by Brent Weeks and the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. I've been meaning to start the Parasol Protectorate series and the Morganville Vampires series but I'm actually quite loaded down with series at the moment, so I'm holding off on that. I'm reading Delirium at the moment and would love to win Pandemonium:)

  47. My All Time Favorite Series is the Dragon Kin series by G. A. Aiken. She also write a Pride series under the name Shelly Laurenston and that is also a favorite series. She can't write them fast enough for me. In fact her next book "Bear Meets Girl" in the Pride series is scheduled to release on March 27th. If I win, that's what I'm gonna get. LOL

  51. My all-time favorite series would definitely be the Dollenganger series by V.C. Andrews and my ya favorite series would be a toss up between The Mortal Instruments/Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare and The Darkest Powers series by Kelley Armstrong. Oh, the Covenant series by Jennifer Armentrout is definitely on that list as well. I cannot stop fangirling about her, she's such a fantastic author and I have recently grown attached to the Trylle Trilogy by Amanda Hocking. So fantastic and intriguing and dark and beautiful. :)

  58. My FAVORITE of ALL TIMES is The Memories of the Eagle and the Jaguar by Isabel Allende. I LOVE it! Figure it, I first read it when I was 8 years old~
    I don't know it is 'right' say this when there's just one book of the serie out, but, at last, I LOVE Cinder. I'm obsessed! So, The Lunar Chronicles.

    Of course there's a long, LONG, list of series I've loved but here, just my first & last-for-the-moment FAVS.

  68. This is such a difficult question to answer because for the most part, I only read series! The main reason being because one book usually can't give me everything I want from characters and situations.

  75. Mercedes Lackey has many amazing series. My two favorite are "The Five Hundred Kingdoms" and "Elemental Masters". Besides that, I have collected almost all of the "Once Upon A Time" series written by numerous authors.

  109. VC Andrews is one of my favorite authors but I'm really behind on her series. There are always new ones coming out. The one I've read in its entirety is the CASTEEL series.

    Her books are addictive and someday I hope to be all caught up.

  110. It's a new find for me, but it's been around for awhile...the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, by J.R. Ward! I just finished book #3, and I am HOOKED! It's soooo good!! Of course, I'm stuck waiting for more funds until I can pick up the next one in the series, and it's killing me, LOL!

  111. I love the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, and my new favorite is Hunger Games. However, I did just finish Delirium and am excited about Pandemonium, so that may become a new favorite as well.

  127. I am definitely a series girl. I have a ton of favorites but my recent favorite would have to be the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent. Those books are amazing and I can't wait for the last two to be released, yet I don't want the series to end! So many mixed emotions:)
